Beer Focus: Pillars Brewery – Pillars Helles
What’s up folks, hope you’ve all been doing good and drinking some great beers. This time around we are visiting Pillars Brewery.
This time we are visiting the guys at Pillars Brewery based in Walthamstow, East London. I’ve never featured Pillars Brewery on my blog, but I have tried their lagers under their old design work. The rebrand is something I think will grow with them now and will definitely be a staple in pubs across England.
The first thing you will notice, as like me, is the new typeface, Pillars Type, created by the minds at Thunderclap Creative. It certainly gives Pillars Brewery a modern look it truly deserves and is a very versatile logo that can be implemented on to pretty much anything and will look super clean.
Second, is the transition from their cans to a classic “stubby” bottle, something which we can all remember grabbing some of these from Co-op! The typeface and the bottle choice both work amazingly well, in my opinion.
The Pillars Helles is 4.8% ABV and vegan friendly. Pouring into a glass, the beer is dark golden with a thin white head with sticky lacing on the sides.
The aroma is everything you will find in a traditional Munich Helles, sweet, toffee/ malty, and resin.
Taking my first sip, the crispness of this beer is refreshing and can picture myself in the sun swigging some these. It’s dry on the finish with a flavour of malt, slight citrus and sweet honey.
This is a firm favourite of mine from Pillars Brewery and is one that I would love to try on draught, I’ll be grabbing some more of these myself.
Food pairing, I’m keeping it simple for this one, I can see this working correctly with a garlic king prawn and chilli linguine, cutting through the chilli and adding a deep flavour with the garlic prawns, perfection!
Have you been trying any beers recently? Let me know in the comments. While you’re here, check out my other beer reviews here.
