Racing Day Fashion for Men

Last Updated: 12 October 2026

There are only a few opportunities to go all-out with a bold look, and this is especially true in 2020. As more celebrations and special occasions prepare to return to some form of normal, I am on the hunt for something amazing to wear. If there was ever a year to make an effort, it comes right after six months of us all living in our pyjamas, so I am excited to look at some Racing Day fashion tips and share my favourites with you.

The Suit

If there is anything in life that is worth spending a lot of money on, it is a suit. A good suit will last forever if you look after it, which is why it’s important to splash out a bit and get something great. Of course, the most expensive suit in the world would look awful if it didn’t fit you correctly, so make sure you get your suit tailored for a day at the races. Go for pale colours to make a statement about your style, while also giving you the benefit of staying a little bit cooler under the sun.

The Accessories

Why should the ladies get all the fun?! Hats and headwear are a huge feature of Ladies Day at the races, but I think us fellas should have something to throw in the air in celebration of the horse race results too! I also love the look of other accessories, like a bold coloured pocket square, and a really nice watch, because if there’s one day of your life that you want to look a little bit flashy, its going to be a day at the races!

The Tie

There are so many tie options for going to the races. You could go for the traditional route, but that can feel a little bit suffocating when you’re out under the sun all day. Another great option is to actually go without a tie and wear your shirt open at the top so that you can stay cool and look slightly more casual, but personally I love the bow tie. A bow tie is a perfect way to make a statement, showcasing your style and flair, while providing you with an opportunity to bring another colour into your look. If you’re not brave enough to try and tie your own bow tie (or you’re at the end of your tether after trying to follow multiple YouTube tutorials!), grab a clip-on bow tie for a low effort way to bring your outfit up a notch.
