Beer Focus: Pastore – Hibiscus & Pomegranate Waterbeach Weisse
What is happening guys. Today, I come with my first ever feature of Pastore Brewing & Blending.
Pastore (pronounced: pas-tor-ray) hails out of Waterbeach, Cambridgeshire. Focusing more closely on what I call the, more quirkier side to craft beer, you will find them releasing fresh, aged sours to also wild beers. I have long been a keen sour drinker, check out my previous sour beer reviews here, and recently discovering Pastore, they have set my standards on sour ales really high.
We kick things off with their Hibiscus & Pomegranate Waterbeach Weisse. I will note, this is not my first time trying Pastore, I previously tried their Passionfruit Waterbeach Weisee and I will say, that was just like drinking a Pornstar Martini, so I knew these was going to be my new go-to brewery for sours.
This sour from Pastore comes in at just 3.8% ABV, a perfect session sour to enjoy with friends or a chilled, quiet evening in front of the TV. With many sours, you will typically find a low-to-medium range ABV, so 3.8% pretty normal.
As you may probably know, I have a thing for can or bottle artwork. I’m loving the way breweries are reaching out to freelance graphic designers to work on their art and Pastore’s has a team of freelancers who take care of this for them.
Opening the can, you’re welcomed with the zing of fresh pomegrante, and the slight puckeriness of the sour, its delightful. It isn’t overpowering but has a little touch of spice and saltiness. Pouring into my glass, you can see from the image the pure greatness this looks like and is full of character. A gorgeous bright red with light, rolling carbonation. You really get the sense that Pastore are keen to producing amazing and great quality ales.
Mouthfeel is dry, obviously sour, and the Pomegrante really comes through along with delicate, tart notes coming from the Hibiscus which really compliments the Pomegrante.
I really enjoyed this sour, and obviously I will be getting more. This would be amazing accompanied with a dessert, perhaps a Peach Streusel Cheesecake to get a real abundance of flavours going on.
If you would like to pick up and try some Pastore beers, you can head over to The Fuss Club here and view their wide range of beers from dark, IPA and sours. Or visit their online shop here and get some of the freshest beer.
Happy drinking, and I’ll see you in the next post.
