Buying gifts for teenagers can be surprisingly difficult. They are old enough to have strong opinions about what they like, but those opinions can also change quickly, particularly when fashion and social media trends are involved.
Jewellery feels like a fairly safe option for birthdays, Christmas, graduations and other occasions, but there is still the problem of choosing something that feels age-appropriate without looking childish.
I recently had a look through Jewellery For Teens, a UK-based jewellery website specifically focused on jewellery gifts for teenage girls, to see whether narrowing the focus actually makes shopping any easier.
A Jewellery Shop Specifically for Teenagers
The biggest difference between Jewellery For Teens and shopping through a general jewellery retailer is that everything has already been selected with younger wearers in mind.
Instead of scrolling through hundreds of pieces designed for everyone from children to older adults, you can browse jewellery specifically aimed at teenagers.
The website has separate collections for bracelets, necklaces, earrings, rings and anklets, as well as jewellery sets and other gift-focused categories.
There are also collections organised by age. That may sound like a small feature, but it is actually useful when you are buying for somebody else and have no idea where to start.
Buying for a 13-year-old can be very different from choosing an 18th birthday present, for example. Being able to start with the recipient’s age and then narrow things down from there removes a lot of the guesswork.
What Kind of Jewellery Do They Sell?
There is a good mixture of fun and more traditional designs.
You can find colourful bracelets, heart jewellery, stars, flowers, butterflies and other playful pieces alongside more understated sterling silver jewellery.
That variety is important because teenagers are obviously not one single market. Some will want something colourful and trend-led, while others would much rather receive a simple silver necklace or bracelet that they can wear every day.
I particularly like the fact that plenty of the designs look youthful without looking like children’s jewellery.
There are pieces that could work for a first piece of more grown-up jewellery as well as options that would make sense for an older teenager celebrating something significant such as a 16th or 18th birthday.
Prices Are Pretty Sensible for Gifts
Another thing that stood out to me was the pricing.
There are plenty of options around the £18 to £30 mark, including bracelets, earrings and necklaces, with more expensive pieces available if you want something a little more substantial.
That makes it easier to match the jewellery to the occasion.
You might want a relatively inexpensive bracelet or pair of earrings for a smaller birthday present, while sterling silver jewellery could be a better choice for a milestone birthday or keepsake.
It also means you can buy jewellery without immediately entering the price bracket of traditional high-street jewellers.
A Nice Option if You Are Sending a Gift Directly
The gifting side has clearly been thought about too.
Jewellery For Teens offers gift wrapping, and there is an option to add a handwritten gift message. That makes the site useful if the recipient doesn’t live nearby and you want to have their present delivered directly.
Delivery is included as standard too, which is always preferable to reaching the checkout and suddenly discovering another charge has been added.
The company is based in Exeter, so orders are being dispatched from within the UK rather than being shipped internationally.
Is Jewellery For Teens Worth Looking At?
If you already know exactly which jewellery brand a teenager likes, then buying from that specific brand probably makes sense.
Where I think Jewellery For Teens becomes particularly useful is when you know you want to buy jewellery but don’t know exactly what to choose.
The age categories give you a sensible starting point, the prices cover a useful range of budgets, and there is enough variety to suit both younger teenagers and those approaching adulthood.
Most importantly, it removes some of the uncertainty that comes with trying to work out whether jewellery from a general retailer is actually going to appeal to a teenager.
If you’re currently looking for a birthday, Christmas or milestone gift for a teenage girl, it is certainly worth having a browse.
