Freedom Organic Helles Lager
I have long been a fan of the Munich Helles style. Hence my previous feature of Hofmeister. Freedom Brewery having been brewing iconic beer styles since 1995. Originally started life in London but soon decided to leave the congested and suffocating streets of the city to the countryside, enabling Freedom Brewery to use only the freshest and purest local spring water.
Freedom has 4 main beers on offer for beer lovers, including the Organic Helles Lager. The Organic Helles is a reflection on the Munich Helles, unlike the Hofmeister which follows the Reinheitsgebot purity law, Freedom has crafted a beer which is organic and suitable for vegans. This Helles truly brings out Freedom’s commitment to producing incredibly great tasting beers.
The Organic Helles is a pale-bodied lager, a rounded malt flavour with a subtle bitterness and smooth caramel undertone giving this a great malty backbone with a very sharp citrus, grass aroma. A thin small white head sits at the top but soon dissipates into nothing, although interestingly, if you allow the beer to settle for a minute or two, you’ll soon notice the beer changes character from when you initially poured it from the glass.
Roll the glass around and you’ll soon be able to create a lovely frothy white head and the taste goes from carbonation galore to a lovely citrus and farmyard flavour.
Overall I’m really impressed by this beer, I would definitely consider pairing this with pizza or a fresh salad and fish.
